The Before Process
The Before is where you are now.
It seems obvious, but I guarantee you it isn’t.
Self awareness is the least common trait we have.
We rarely have a hard look at our lives.
We are so busy living IN our lives, we rarely work ON our lives.
To get somewhere new, we must step back and take a look at our lives from the outside.
We need to define the “Before”, which is where we are starting from.
1. What are the facts of your current situation?
This would include your job, where you work, what you do, what you like about it — and what you don’t.
I manage a call center. I deal with people's schedules all day. I made decent money but know I could make way more. I like the income. I hate the job itself.
2. How satisfied are you with your current life? In a scale of 1 to 10, rate your satisfaction.
1 + REALLY UNHAPPY. 10 = I’m loving it!
I'm at a level 1. Totally DISSATISFIED with my career.
3. How does your level of satisfaction, affect how you feel about yourself, your prospects for a new life, and your overall confidence?
I'm really scared of the future. I never wanted this job, and it seems like it's turning into what I might be stuck doing. This scares the crap out of me. I feel my energy draining everyday. I'm tired. I want to feel excited and alive, but I am drained spending my time making money for someone else.
And there you have your BEFORE.
Now you have a clear “before snapshot” of your situation.
Please do not just go through the motions of reading this.
Actually write down all answers to the before questions.
You must have your starting point.
Even if it’s a bit of a bummer to focus on where you are starting, the next step is very fun.
