It was a good call! I was listening in by phone, because I was driving back from New York. I’m glad I got to hear it; I’ve had to miss being a part of the last two because of work.

Right now I’m looking forward to my first student film shoot on Saturday. I’m really hoping that it will act like a springboard and launch me into doing more and more, and before I know it I’m making a living at it.

I guess right now, I’m still at that point where I don’t feel like I’ve really done anything. I’m still worried that I won’t get anywhere, and I find that I’m comparing myself to others, even though they’re in bigger cities and different circumstances. But I guess because the ones I’m comparing myself to started this program at the same time as me, I feel like I should have already been on a couple of student shoots by now, like they have.

So right now I’m fighting to stay positive.

Hi Shannon!

Here’s the thing, there are no rules. If you aren’t on a shoot this month, that doesn’t mean anything. It doesn’t mean you are behind. It doesn’t mean you are not going to be on a ton of shoots and be super successful in the future.

You can make it mean that… and then that would suck.

Most people do!

They make it mean, “ahh, I’m not in the right place, I’m not that great, I’m behind…” and then they feel sucky.

See you can make it mean something that disempowers you, or you can make it mean, you’re excited! Just plain excited!

There doesn’t need to be anything more!

What is going to be a driving force in your life??? Like what is going to make the difference?

I would say, it’s you choosing to be excited. For no reason.

Just that’s how you roll.

The other, would be normal. Compare yourself to others, and feel disempowered. Believe those thoughts.

NO! ;-)

Don’t believe those thoughts. Any thoughts that are sucky, don’t believe. They don’t serve you, do they?

Ok, then they are OUT.

The only thing that will constantly and predicatable bring you success is YOU. Not your circumstances, where you live, whatever.

It’s YOU, all the way.

So, use this time to keep choosing the empowering thoughts.

What are some empowering thoughts you can come up with now?

Some empowering thoughts are that I’m further than when I started. I can actually see the direction that I’m going in and I know what steps to take. There is a certainty there that there wasn’t before I found Friends in Film. I have a shoot coming up!!! I’m going to get to meet new people and learn some stuff! Even though I’m not where I want to be yet, if I keep doing what I’m doing now, I will be.

Excellent! Now reframe those questions as empowering questions! ex. Do I have a shoot coming up that I’m excited about? YES!

Okay here it goes;

Am I further than when I started? Definitely!

Can I actually see the direction that I’m going in and know what steps to take? Yes!

Is there a certainty there that there wasn’t before I found Friends in Film? Absolutely, and thank goodness for that!

Do I have a shoot coming up? Yeah buddy!!!!!

Am I going to get to meet new people and learn some stuff? Yes, all the stuff!

Even though I’m not where I want to be yet, if I keep doing what I’m doing now, will I be eventually?

I have never been more certain.

Oh wow! Can you tell the difference inside you when you asked yourself empowering questions versus just statements????

Shannon

Yeah! It definitely lifted up my spirit more when I put it that way. I’ll need to keep reminding myself to do that!

Alex G. I’ve read over your threads too and I’m so glad to see that I’m not the only one feeling this way. We keep comparing our progress to others when, really we should be focusing on our own individual progress. We need to keep on doing more than we did yesterday and improve our mindset.

Janet Urban is such a big help in focusing our thoughts and giving us direction, so thank you for that!

Hey friends. I wanted to just send out some encouragement: Sometimes I feel a bit behind in my modules, and FIF program. But I thought that if I can commit to doing at least one thing that is film related a week, then I am doing okay. Whether that is working through modules, or booking an agent, or speaking with directors, or volunteering at an event, or connecting at a meet and greet. It is all
connected, and it will help along the way.

Sure, the more you apply what we are learning the faster we can accelerate in the program, but sometimes life gets in the way. And that is okay, take a deep breath, and do what you can. There is no right or wrong way to journey through this, it is your OWN! So enjoy it!

What are some empowering questions you can come up with, to put yourself in the GO GETTER, EXCITED, EMPOWERED state of mind? Take a moment and post in the mastermind. Inspire yourself. Inspire others!
